Projects with Erasmus+

Since I was involved a project to Albania which was funded by a programme called Erasmus Plus, I decided to take part in one which took place in the UK in my city, Birmingham. I wasn't really a participant but I study media so I could help the organisation out by filming their performances. The project was called 'Youth can dance' and was organised by Praxis Europe.

Again I met people from Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria etc. This project was slightly different as it was all about dancing but from different cultures. As I spent around two days with these people I felt like I was also part of the project, well at least they made me feel like I was. I learnt a few new dances but remembered the Turkish dance from Albania which was one of my favourites.

We also had bhangra dancers who were absolutely brilliant!

Going back to the first day, I took a trip to the hostel they were staying at to meet everyone also it was their Intercultural evening. We had the tables set up from each country.

This was different compared to the Intercultural evening in Albania as there were other countries that weren't there. I also tasted a couple of new things I'd never heard of or seen before.

After everyone introduced their country, they taught us a little bit of their language, facts and videos to get to know them a bit better. I'm already so interested in learning about different cultures and countries so I was extremely excited about it all.

The evening ended with some music and fun with the groups which was a blast. It was amazing to have a great time with people I only just met a few hours ago...

This has got me more excited about the project taking place next month.

From London to Albania!

I recently got involved with the Erasmus+ project and had an opportunity to fly to Albania to work on human rights education.

The Journey was quite long but fun at the same time. After 4 hours on the coach from Birmingham to London and another 4 hours on the plane, I finally Arrived in the capital of Albania known as Tirana with two of my friends. Then we drove to the countryside of another place called Durres.

The view from my hotel room was beautiful, felt good waking up to this everyday, at least for the week I was staying. As soon as I got there I ran for the beach in my sunglasses and dress, totally forgot about the sleep since it was so beautiful and sunny compared to the UK.

I have to admit I actually had no idea I was staying at the countryside till the second day, no wonder there was no souvenir stores around so we travelled to the city instead. Other then that I met some amazing people from different countries like Turkey, Kosovo, Macedonia, Italy and Bosnia.

We also set up a table which showed some things about our countries and city and tasted different foods and set up our own of the UK.

Since I came here for a training course which promotes Human rights education, I took part in many group activities for example the first two days we had to get used to all the names, and they were quite complicated as they're pronounced differently, but right now I know every single one which is a progress!

Since I study Media, I got into a group and began filming a short scenes to create a video that gives out a message to allow everybody to have equal human rights. After filming at the beach, I used the Adobe Premiere Pro software to edit all the scenes together and finally added copyright music. The main message in the end was 'Make a change!' which is exactly what we want to do. I also taught others how to use the software. This makes me want to become a teacher or maybe a leader one day.

It's such an incredible experience to be able to bond with each and everyone from different cultures and religions. I learnt so much and I know this is exactly what I want to do in the future as my permanent job. Everyone is so open and free and so am I, I have been ever since I arrived. I'm glad I got involved with Erasmus and will never regret it as I'm now a day away from going back but I don't want to leave!!

This photo was taken in the city of Durres with all the amazing participants and myself.
